Why does cleansing my sinuses get water in my ears?

When I cleanse my sinsuses, I get water in my ears and more than not get sick. My son splashed water in my ears when we were in the pool last summer and I got sick for a month and a half with Bronchitis. I don't know if the bronchitis was viral or bacterial. Probably viral because the antibiotics the doc gave me didn't work. My family thought at the time that I probably got the antibiotics too late and that the bronchitis was already in ';full effect';. I think i had viral bronchitis and that the antibiotics couldn't have an effect unless I had bacterial bronchitis. I've tried cleansing my sinsuses to get some relief from the pressure and for better health like I've read I should do. The problem is that every time I cleans my sinsues. I'm almost always get water in my ears and I start to get sick or get sick. Anyone have any suggestions? I won't even bother with cleasing because I don't need to be sick and miss work again. I'm having deviated septum surgery in 3 weeks.Why does cleansing my sinuses get water in my ears?
