Will holy water really cleanse me of my evil sins?

Is holy water that powerful that it will clean me of the sins that I have like pride, lust, etc? What makes it so powerful?Will holy water really cleanse me of my evil sins?
If it could, the confessionals would cease to be.





It's water that is blessed and holds a significance to some people, like my mother.

No, the Catholic Church never teaches that. Holy Water is a mere sacramental and its functions as it signifies. You have to know the difference or the yapping dogs who bark when it hears others bark without knowing what everyone is barking about will lead you astray.





To understand the power of holy water you should understand the meaning of holiness in the biblical sense. Then you will understand how people survived long before modern humans ever heard of the word Psychology.
coming from someone whose screen name is satan loves. any who the only religion that i know of is catholic and no it cannot clean you of your sins that's not what its for. you need to go to confession and repent and ask for forgiveness that's how you rid yourself of your sins. holy water is only to supplement your mass experience it helps you connect better with the holiness i guess. its to bless you. it has nothing to o with you being a sinner and its not anything powerful like your talking about now if it burns when it touches your skn it means your evil and you should work on that.
Yes...the water is all magickal and like. If you pour it over your head and drink it, then your sins will be forgiven and jesus wont mind that you killed thirty people because you drank the amazing holy water. He will however, send that little kid who was jelouse of her brothers bike to hell though because envy is a sin and the little girl didnt drink the holy water.

I am with Marysia, only you can try and control your actions. There is no such thing as cleaning out all of your sin because whats done is done! All you can do now is move forward and correct the way you walk. The Bible says in Matthew 7:13,14 ';Go in through the narrow gate; because broad and spacious is the road leading off into destruction, and many are the ones going in through it; whereas narrow is the gate and cramped the road leading off into life, and few are the ones finding it.'; So like the scripture states it is not going to be easy. Everyone struggles to do what is good. It is so much easier to follow the broad road as it is to follow the narrow road. And also like a few other people pointed out heartfelt prayer will also help only if God sees that you are trying to make an effort yourself! Well the holy water helps, but you would also need some holy soap. And if you have some hard to get spots of evil on you, a holy loofah will help with that. Scrub your soul clean! And don't forget a good holy shampoo and conditioner. You don't want any evil buildup in your hair. Satan is wiley like that.
No there is only ONE savior - Jesus Christ. And YOU have to be willing to allow him to transform you by the Word of God. Holy water and anointing oil is only a symbol of the the blood of Christ that was shed for the world's sin at Calvary.


The only thing that makes Holy water or anointing oil powerful is the power of the faith of the one using it and the faith of the one its being used on.

judging by your user name im guessing this isnt a genuine question, but ill give you a genuine answer. holy water doesnt do anything. only accepting Jesus as your personal saviour can take away your sins. of course we cant forget true repentance and asking for His forgiveness

only 1John1:9 can cleanse you (that is if you are a believer in Christ absolving the sin problem on the cross... belief in him alone in faith alone)
as with many religions, holy water is only a symbolic substance. Do you think communion is actually consumtion of Jesus' flesh and blood? It's only a method in which we can display to others our faith.
If you really believe it will! I just think it's some germy water everyone sticks they're fingers in..then you touch your face, yuck. But it is blessed water, so that means something. No it will not clean you of your sins.
No, however, if you heat it up and add soap and a scrubbing brush it WILL cleanse you of ordinary mud, dirt, dust etc.

There is no ';holy water'; in the Bible. It cannot cleanse sins.





Only the blood of Jesus fully cleanses sins, and you get that by believing the truth about Jesus :)





The truth about Jesus is that the only way to be saved and to get into heaven and avoid being sent to eternal hell is by believing in faith alone that Jesus, who is God, died for our sins on the cross and rose from the dead (1 Corinthians 15:1-4). Believe this and you are saved, no matter what!
